As we near the end of October, things are getting a bit spooky at the libraries. Come enjoy some fall fun with us.
OPENlab
Adults are invited to use the MADlab at the Rifle Branch Library to work on photo, video and other maker projects. OPENlab is held on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-6 p.m., as well as Fridays and the second Saturday of the month from noon to 4 p.m. Teens aged 15-17 may also utilize OPENlab with a one-time parent approval. Equipment and space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call 970-625-3471 or stop in to make a reservation.
Fridays at Your Library
F@YL is an event series for children and teens every Friday at 1 p.m. at the New Castle, Silt and Rifle Branch Libraries. On Oct. 24, the Silt Branch will host a special “Halloween Treats” edition, and the Rifle Branch will host “MADlab & Book Pumpkins.” Then, on Oct. 31 the New Castle Branch will host a special “Spooky F@YL Party.” For more information call your local library.
Altered Art Notebooks with Kelley Cox
Kelley Cox, New Castle-native and photojournalist, will lead a program for teens in which participants use their creativity to make beautiful art on covers of notebooks. The event will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, at the New Castle Branch Library. Participants will be provided with supplies and instructions. This class is limited to 10 people so call 970-984-2346 or stop by the library to reserve your spot.
Recipe for Adventure Masquerade
Recipe for Adventure Book Club visits New Orleans! Wear a costume and an apron to the masquerade at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Parachute Branch Library where we will cook gumbo and bananas Foster. For children 5 and up. Halloween Parades
The Garfield County Libraries invite young children to show off your costumes as we trick-or-treat around the block to local businesses. The Halloween Parade in Glenwood Springs is on Tuesday, Oct. 28; in New Castle on Thursday, Oct. 30; and in Rifle on Friday, Oct. 31. The parades will begin at each library at 10:30 a.m.
Libraries closed for staff work day
All six branches of the Garfield County Libraries will be closed Wednesday, Oct. 29, for a staff training day. You can still browse and request books, movies and more on our website, www.gcpld.org, during the closure. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
Murder Mystery at the Library
Teens are invited to put their forensic skills to the test at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library. Upon arrival, participants will learn details of the crime and be taught techniques to solve it. Snacks will be provided.
