Prejudice & Pride (1965-1980)

Join us as Colleen Goodrich, History Instructor at Colorado Mountain College, leads a discussion following the viewing of the fifth episode of the PBS documentary series "Latino Americans: 500 Years of History" entitled "Prejudice & Pride" (subtitled in Spanish). Colleen will discuss the changing roles and new identities of Mexican Americans in contemporary society, as well as speak to the important influence of this growing part of the US population. Special attention will be paid to the Bracero Movement and its relation to Latino American immigration to the United States, and the subsequent formation of the Chicano Movement, led by Cesar Chavez. These topics specifically look at Latino immigration to the United States and its important role in agriculture, as well as the labor and environmental issues involved.

This public program series was funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.
