Updated! Call for Artists Open for Carbondale Branch Library

Call for Artisans for New Carbondale Branch Library

The Garfield County Public Library District is seeking local artisans to submit designs for possible inclusion in the new Carbondale Branch Library. Artisans located in Garfield County or counties contiguous to Garfield are welcome to apply. The current competition is open for the new library's service desk cladding and service desk lighting. A feature pendant light and decorative panels to the front of the desk will be selected on a competitive basis.  This is the second competition for this library. The first competition (which closes on November 1, 2012- see below for details) sought a metal worker to design/build the exterior bike racks and after hours gate for the facility. Entries for the service desk items are due December 1, 2012. All competitions are hosted by the website callforentry.org where additional information and requirements can be found.

The Garfield County Public Library District has partnered with Carbondale's Public Arts Commission (CPAC) in this endeavor. Willis Pember Architects (Aspen) and Humphries Poli (Denver) have designed this facility to incorporate these artisanal pieces - an idea that was supported fervently in public design input meetings during the library design process. Additional artistic points of note about the new library include: future sculpture locations which will be part of the Art aRound Town program, marble pieces donated by the Marble quarry used for seating, a community garden and chalkboard, and interior art walls located throughout the library for rotating display.

The library is currently under construction by RA Nelson Associates at the corner of Sopris Avenue and Third Street in downtown Carbondale.
For additional information about the competition process please call competition administrator Andi Korber at Land+Shelter - 970-963-0201 or see http://gcpld.org/construction

This competition is for the bike racks and after hours gate at the new Carbondale Branch Library. A team may apply for just one or both. The winning team will be awarded the job and have the opportunity to see their work in a public building in Carbondale (or right on the street for the bike racks)! A second competition will follow in a couple of weeks for the service desk cladding and service desk lighting. Please send me any questions, apply to the competition yourself, and/or help us send the word around. L+S Office: 970-963-0201, or my cell: 970-366-1582.

The 411: Artisans must be located in Garfield County or a county that touches Garfield County. Applicants must be able to fabricate and install the work. (Drawing board types, you can partner with someone if you don't do the fabrication yourself).

We are looking forward to some local work in the new Carbondale Branch Library!
