Read to Me Day

The Garfield County Libraries are partnering with the Garfield County Department of Human Services Child Care Program and the Roaring Fork Valley Early Learning Fund's "Raising a Reader" program to produce another "Read to Me Day". The goals of Read to Me Day include:

  • supporting the relationship between young children and early literacy
  • fostering relationships between community members and young children
  • fostering relationships between the community and early childhood programs
  • and immersing children in the magic of books!

Read to Me Day will be held in the towns of Silt, Rifle, and Parachute (Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, and New Castle held theirs on Nov. 17th). During this special day, volunteers from the community will read a special book to children in daycares and preschool classes throughout the three towns. After each volunteer reader is finished sharing the story with the children, the book will remain in the daycare or classroom for the children to read and enjoy again and again.
