Plumbing the Colorado

Students examine the Colorado River system and demonstrate changes in river flow that occur as the river travels from source to sea through interactive, hands-on mapping activities. Students will gain an increased awareness of water users on the Colorado River, including those outside their local area, by identifying the source, tributaries, and mouth of the river. They will also recognize the difficulty of balancing needs of all water users.

Plumbing the Colorado is a program for middle and high school students presented by the Roaring Fork Conservancy as part of the Sixth Annual One Book, One Town community reading project with the Gordon Cooper Branch Library. This year features the book Running Dry: A Journey from Source to Sea, Down the Colorado River by local adventurer and author Jonathan Waterman. You can also meet the author for a lecture, photo presentation, and book signing at the Roaring Fork High School Auditeria on October 14th at 6:30 p.m.
