Otto Mears: Pathfinder of the San Juans

The Winter Lecture Series continues at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library with a Chautauqua-style program on Thursday March 21, 2013 at 7 pm. Otto Mears (1840-1931) was a famous Colorado railroad builder and entrepreneur who played a major role in the early development of southwestern Colorado. Mears was known as the "Pathfinder of the San Juans" because of his road and railroad building projects through Colorado's San Juan Mountains in the late 19th Century. Steve Lee brings Otto Mears to life in the third installment of the Winter Lecture Series, which is sponsored by the Frontier Historical Society and the Friends of the Glenwood Springs Library. The program is free, open to the public, and light refreshments are served. The library is located at 413 9th Street.
