Meet Your Librarian: Janine Rose
You may have seen Janine Rose at any or all of the branches of Garfield County Libraries in the 14 years. Janine was the long-time Branch Manager in Silt until she left that position a few years ago to join the library administrative team. Once again, her job has shifted and you will see her most often at the Rifle Branch.
Janine lived in Oak Park, Illinois as a child where she walked past Frank Lloyd Wright’s studio each day on the way to and from school. She and her imaginative childhood friends used to run under the awning on the Chicago Avenue side of the building afraid that it might fall on them. And since the building was not a regular residence, but instead a museum, they were never sure if someone might just reach out and grab one of them!
Janine decided to become a librarian because she liked to read and liked to help people. She knew she didn’t have the patience it would take to become a teacher, and she didn’t want to go to law school. So, librarianship it was! She decided to pursue her Masters degree in Library Science at Indiana University because it was near where she lived, and Wisconsin had too much snow. When she finished her degree with a specialization in Academic and Special Libraries, the last place she wanted to work was an academic library, so she went to work in a bookstore owned by a friend. Later, after moving to Colorado, Janine happened to walk into a public library in Castle Rock and knew that this might be the place for her. She never had considered working in a public library before, but she immediately liked the environment. She has been working in public libraries ever since.
Outside work Janine loves to read in her hammock, which usually leads to naps in her hammock. Those naps are occasionally interrupted when the book she was reading rudely smashes into her sleeping face. Janine is very happy to be back in the branch because of the rhythm and flow that the day brings. She says, “You never know who is going to come through the door, what they might need, and how to match that person with what they need. This is a perfect job for someone who is curious. I will chase down rabbit holes to find an answer to my questions, and I love that I can do that here for others as well.” Say hello to Janine next time you visit the Rifle Branch.
