Literacy Outreach's Annual Spellebration

Spellebration 2011: Dig Deep for Literacy - the Mammoth Event of the Year
The annual Literacy Outreach fundraiser, Spellebration 2011: Dig Deep for Literacy, promises to be “the mammoth event of the year”, according to event organizers. This year’s adult spelling bee will take place on Friday, April 15 at the Glenwood Springs Community Center, a new venue for the family-friendly event, now in its 17th year. Three-person teams of spellers, dressed to the event’s rocky theme, the Stone Age, compete for best and worst team spelling honors, as well as best team costume and most dollars raised contests.
This year’s theme also celebrates the historically massive Ice Age discoveries of last year in Snowmass at Ziegler Reservoir.
There’s something for every age to experience at Spellebration. Spectators can participate in the silent auction throughout the evening while cheering for their favorite team. As the word difficulty increases, Spellebration’s spelling helper, a spectator favorite, will be available for hire to get teams past challenging words.
Spellebration 2011: Dig Deep for Literacy benefits literacy tutoring for adult learners in Garfield County and GED instruction at Colorado Mountain College.
Sponsors, silent auction donations and teams (3-person and individuals) are needed and encouraged to contact Executive Director of Literacy Outreach, Martha Fredendall without delay at mfredendall@rof.net or 945-5282.
