Last of the Cowboys: a movie by Anita Witt

The Glenwood Springs Branch will show the Last of the Cowboys on Thursday, January 20th at 7pm in the basement meeting room for the first program in the 2011 Winter Lecture Series. This documentary was produced locally by historian Anita Witt who interviewed some of the last of the old-time cowboys in the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond. These men descended from original homesteaders who came in search of land and livelihood and who ultimately carved out the ranches that at one time dominated the area. They recall a bygone era of growing up, attending one-room schoolhouses, and often dropping out of school to help on the ranch. Last of the Cowboys, in addition to being an oral history, is an intriguing insight into a way of life that is fast disappearing. Refreshments will be served.
