Questions about the column surrounds will be posted here as they are received.

1. Q - Where can we find information about the other artisanal competitions underway for this library?
A - At this website (www.callforentry.org) there are two competitions posted. One is for bike racks and an after hours gate (basically metal-work) which is due November 1, 2012. One is for service desk lighting and service desk cladding which is due December 1, 2012. Anyone is welcome to call Andrea Korber at 963-0201 for additional information.

2. Q - Can we integrate lighting into the column proposal?
A - There is no additional budget for lighting, and the lighting package will be well underway when an artist is selected. That said, we can review a lighting idea that uses funds from the $7500/column and see if it's not too late in terms of the rest of the electrical design. So basically - not impossible, but there might be come coordination challenges. The basic design includes code-required lighting which will provide some minimal illumination of the columns at night, but this lighting is not integrated into the columns. The lighting is located above the columns and is downlighting, directed down towards the columns and sidewalk (basically, path illumination for the walkway).

3. Q - How can we access the Historical Society materials available as a resource for this project?
A - Please contact Beth White, the ED of the Mount Sopris Historical Society: Beth White <bethwhitephotography@gmail.com>

4. Q - Who will be selecting the artist?
A - The interview committee will consist of Willis Pember (lead architect), Marilyn Murphy (Carbondale Branch Manager), Amelia Shelley (Executive Director, Garfield County Libraries), Rep from Town of Carbondale, Rep from Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities, Rep from Carbondale Public Arts Commission, Rep from Carbondale Clay Center.

5. Q - What is the schedule for selection?
A - We will select artists to interview by October 25th and we will notify everyone who submitted qualifications if they received an interview or not. The interviews will be scheduled approximately two weeks from that time, exact date/time TBD.

6. Q - What should artists bring to the interview?
A - A sketch of the proposal. Any relevant portfolio images. 1 copy is requested that can be left with the jury.

7. Q - What are the requirements for community participation?
A - This can be interpreted by the artist individually. Let's make sure this project is truly of Carbondale and not just in Carbondale.

8. Q - Can we work as a team?
A - Yes. Please make sure you identify the team in your qualifications submission.

9. Q - What is the name of the resin company that did work in libraries?
A - Burgeon Group http://www.burgeongroup.com/vancouver-community-library-land-of-imagination.html

10. Q - What is the name of the school libraries project mentioned by Andi?
A - The L!BRARY Initiative. (The L!BRARY Project has printed a retrospective book about the renovation of a series of libraries in the public school system of New York City. Here's a blog post about one of them.
