I Did (It) Day

It's an IDD (Instructional Development Day) for teachers so we are having an IDD at the library, too. We are calling it "I Did (It) Day!" We will have stations set up throughout the library with fun activities for children (and parents) of all ages. Students can earn an "IDD Certificate" which they can show their teacher! There will be a scavenger hunt, arts and crafts, puzzles, and games. Play "Stump the Librarian" and take part in the Shelving Contest. Stop by the Gordon Cooper Branch Library between 10:00 am and 5:30 pm on Monday, May 13 to play.

No School? Watch a Movie!

No school? Grab a friend and come on over to the Gordon Cooper Library to watch a feature length movie. We'll supply the popcorn.

Movie showings are at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 9, Friday, May 10, and Monday May 13.

Tween Book Club

Tweens (ages 9 to 12) are invited to read and talk about good books at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library. Each member selects their own book to discuss. Tweens will be writing anonymous reviews for a library magazine and blog, as well as creating bookmarks about their books for display in the library. The Tween Book Club meets after school from 4 to 5 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month. Light snacks are served.

Story Art with the Aspen Art Museum

Led by an instructor from the Aspen Art Museum, Story Art combines learning to read with art-making and activities that build visual literacy. This popular program introduces children to the basic foundations of art through engaging storybooks, looking activities, and hands-on art projects.

Story Art programs are held at the Gordon Cooper Branch Library on the first Tuesday of each month and are for children in grades K-5.

Reading Buddies

Be a Reading Buddy after school at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library. After starting off with a group game and a snack, younger readers are partnered with older reading buddies to practice and develop a love for reading. Before Reading Buddies is over we offer time for homework or independent reading.

Anime Club

Do you love to read backwards?  Do manga and graphic novels appear in your dreams? If so, this club is for you!

Anime Club takes place at the Parachute Branch Library on Monday, May 20 at 3:00 pm.

Reel Readers

Read the book and come watch the movie version on our giant screen with movie theatre sound.  Even if you have not read the book, you are welcome to come and enjoy the screening. There will be food, so call ahead and find out what’s cooking. Feel free to stay after the film to gab.

Reel Readers takes place at the Parachute Branch Library on Friday, May 17 at 6:00 pm.

Teen Advisors Group (TAG)

Teen Advisors Group (TAG) is open to anyone between the ages of 13 and 17 and meets the first Wednesday of each month from 4:30 to 5:30 pm at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library. Come and have your say in what books, music, videos, and programs to offer the teens of Glenwood Springs. Following a brief meeting, we will offer a Manga workshop open to all ability levels. We will supply paper, drawing ideas, and something to draw with if you don’t have a drawing pen or brush of your own. Snacks will be provided. No sign-up is necessary.

Paws to Read

Come to the Glenwood Springs Branch Library on the fourth Thursday of every month from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. for Paws to Read! Children in kindergarten through grade 5 can sign up ahead of time to read to a dog. The program is free and will feature dogs and handlers from Heeling Partners of the Roaring Fork Valley.

Honoring Those in Active Duty

Join us in giving thanks to those serving in active duty by writing them a letter at the display table at the Rifle Branch Library. You can also stop by to receive information about serving your country if you are considering joining the armed forces. If you have loved ones overseas that have access to web cameras, come and use our iPad to Skype with them in one of our study rooms.
