McGuire Law, an immigration law firm, is coming to the Glenwood Springs and Gordon Cooper Branch Libraries to host a free information program about the new Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. DACA allows qualifying undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children to receive deferred legal status and work authorization. The program will include a presentation about the policy, including eligibility requirements, methods of application, risks and benefits of applying, and where to find more information.

Silt Branch Grand Opening!

World Book Night is an annual celebration designed to spread a love of reading and books. World Book Night is held in the U.S., the U.K., and Ireland on April 23, 2012. Tens of thousands of people will go out into their communities to spread the joy and love of reading by giving out free World Book Night paperbacks.

Join us at 402 West Main Street on Saturday, April 14, at 10:00 a.m. for the Grand Re-Opening of the New Castle Branch Library! We'll have refreshments and giveaways (until 2:00 p.m. or while supplies last), and you can check out the new building. The new library will feature a beautiful fireplace and reading area, local history room, teen area, interactive children's area, and a large community meeting room.

Parachute Branch Library staff are going to Bea Underwood Elementary School on Thursday, April 12, from 6:30-8:00pm to support Family Literacy Night. This evening will give parents and their kids the opportunity to ask any questions about the Library District and the upcoming Summer Reading Program, which will be starting in June. The agricultural valley we live in is known as the Middle Colorado River Watershed. There are many issues facing the health and conservation of the water resources in our watershed. Hydrologist Jeff Crane will speak on these issues, which include agriculture, gas development, source water protection, invasive species and water quantity. Crane will discuss the work performed by local watershed groups throughout Colorado. Join us at the Rifle Branch Library onTuesday, May 1 at 7:00pm to learn more about issues facing local water resources and what we can do to help!

Anyone can donate life. Catherine Bradham from Donate Life Colorado will be available at the Parachute Branch Library on Tuesday, April 17 at 1:30pm to answer questions regarding organ, eye, or tissue donation.

Celebrate Earth Day by doing something to make your community better. The Silt Branch Library is encouraging middle and high school kids to come in on Saturday, April 14 from 12:00-3:00pm to take part in our trash cleanup and scavenger hunt. All who attend will be served Subway sandwiches, chips, and drinks! After lunch, kids will go out in groups on a treasure hunt to learn more about their own community while they pick up trash off the streets.
