"Picture It @ the Library" Photo Exhibition

In celebration of Teen Read Week, October 16-22, the library challenges all teens to create a visual representation of your favorite book. Bring your photo entry (or entries) to the Gordon Cooper Branch Library by Friday, October 21.

Come join us for brain storming and collage on October 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the New Castle Branch's temporary location. Share your ideas for how YOU envision the new library and have fun making art.

Artist Reception: "Oils by Lillian"

Join us at the Rifle Branch Library on October 13 at 6:30 p.m. for an artist reception with Lillian Wyant. Lillian's oil paintings will be on display in the library until late November. You may view some of Lillian's work at her website, www.oilsbylillian.com.

Photography for Teens

Wanna learn how to take some great photos? Local professional photographer Ashley Mickelson will show you how to make your pictures rock! Join her at the Silt Community Center on October 13 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. You will learn a variety of tips and tricks, such as cool lighting techniques, to make your photos stand out. Story Art with Aspen Art Museum

The Aspen Art Museum is partnering with the Gordon Cooper Branch Library in Carbondale to offer Story Art, a free program that combines learning to read with visual literacy and art-making. Held once a month, this program introduces children to the basic foundations of art through engaging storybooks, looking activities, and hands-on art projects. Registration is recommended. Story Art is held on the first Thursday of every month from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.

Crafting WIPs and Friends

Calling all quilters, needle crafters, scrapbookers, and stampers! Want to have a day of fun and accomplishment? Drop into the Rifle Branch Library's Community Room anytime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month for a day of crafting and fellowship. Come whip your WIPs (Works In Progress) into shape! There is no cost to attend; just bring your own lunch or snacks and drinks.

Drawing Comics and Manga

Teens and manga artists, join your peers at the New Castle Branch Library every Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. to learn techniques and share your talents. All levels are welcome - just bring a pencil, paper, and your imagination. For more information call 984-2346.

Tie Dye T-Shirts

Go back to school in style: design your own tie-dyed t-shirt! The Gordon Cooper Branch Library will help you create a unique piece of wearable art on Thursday, August 25, from 10 am to noon. This event is open to children of all ages, but space is limited. Participants must register at the library by August 13. Art in the Stacks Opening Reception: Ellen Zagoras

Local artist Ellen Zagoras will share her abstract acrylic and ink artwork in the latest installation of Art in the Stacks. Art-lovers of all ages are welcome to join us for refreshments and a short talk during the Artist Reception on Tuesday, February 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Rifle Branch Library.

Henna Tattoo

Get ready for Mountain Fair with a hands-on Henna Tattoo program at the Gordon Cooper Branch Library on Thursday, July 28 from 4-5pm. Come early to try this temporary tattoo experience. You'll be all the rage at Mountain Fair.
