Hacker. A term that conjures up images of computer tyrants exploiting other computers to obtain control or steal information. But that’s not the only kind of ‘hacker’ out there. In fact, YOU may be a hacker, and you don’t even know it! Join us on Tuesday, June 25 at 1:00 pm at the Rifle Branch Library as we ‘Hack the Surface’ with a variety of hacker/maker activities, including TabLab, BrushBots, and MakeyMakey, that will put your mind and skills to the test!

Anyone age 12-18 interested in volunteering for the Rifle Branch Library this summer is invited to a Volunteer Orientation on Saturday, June 1 at 1:00 pm. We will prepare you to be an active volunteer for summer programs and other regular duties in the library.

Astrojax. Three balls on a string. A skill toy with limitless play possibilities. Join us on June 4 at 2:30 pm in the Storytime Room at the Rifle Branch Library to learn about Astrojax, and sign up if you are interested in participating throughout the summer (8 weeks total). We will have weekly meetings where we can hang out, learn new tricks, and participate in contests.
Put on your pajamas and come enjoy stories, songs, crafts and a bedtime snack on the second Monday evening of each month at the Rifle Branch Library at 6:30 pm!

Part 1: Design your Board Game Square. Using various crafting supplies, inject your creative flair to build your game square in any fashion you choose. Each participant that designs a square is eligible to win a prize in various design categories (for example: most unique game square).
Part 2: The Board Game Squares are created, now let's PLAY! In teams, you will compete AS the game pieces. Prizes awarded during game play in various categories.
Michael Stanwood's Exploring the World Through Music includes lessons in geography, social studies, languages, even clothing- all through the back door of the wondrous musical instruments that Michael has collected in his travels. A Khaen, a Didgeridu, Angklungs; he plays them all and wants you to play them as well in this unique, interactive, and often hilarious program.
Michael Stanwood's Exploring the World Through Music will take place at the Rifle Branch Library on Thursday, August 1, at 10:30 am.
The Museum of Western Colorado will lead a talk about what fossils are, how they are formed, what they can teach us, how they are found, their preparation and dating, why they are found in Colorado, and the work of a paleontologist. They will also provide a collection of fossils including dinosaur, plant, mammal, and sea creature remains. They will also talk briefly about the time line of our planet, the changing environment of Colorado, how dinosaurs behaved, and why they disappeared.
