Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday and Inauguration Day at the Gordon Cooper Library
We will have activities from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Gordon Cooper Branch Library for children of all ages. Arts and crafts, presidential matching games and trivia, a musical celebration honoring Martin Luther King, Jr., and live on the big screen in the Community Room, the Inauguration Ceremonies in Washington, DC.
Meet the Author and Pizza Tasting Contest
On February 12th at 6:00 pm The Glenwood Springs Library Teen Advisory Group welcomes special guest Breanna Richardson, a Glenwood Springs High School graduate.
Recently, at the age of 21, Breanna published her fantasy novel “Destitution”. Breanna will share her experiences in becoming a published author and then open the floor to questions.
"The Grapes of Wrath" Book Discussion
The Glenwood Springs Branch Library is hosting a book discussion on “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck on Wednesday, February 27th at 7:00 p.m.
Companion Book Club
Students and parents from the Rifle Middle School are participating in The Big Read Program by reading and discussing the companion novels, “Out of the Dust” and “Esperanza Rising.” Join us for a book discussion and fun evening at the Rifle Branch Library on Thursday, February 28 at 6:00 p.m.
Angry Raisins Book Talk
Join us for the Angry Raisins Book Talk to discuss “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck for The Big Read 2013. This program will be held on Monday, February 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the Rifle Branch Library. Raisins will be served.
Repurpose Your Duds
Teens are invited to come learn how to redesign and repurpose their clothes to make a new, exciting wardrobe!
The talented Jessica Bouck will be teaching this Big Read program at the Rifle Branch Library on Friday, February 22 at 2:30 p.m. All materials will be supplied.
Experience the 1930s Teen Event
Come to the Parachute Branch Library on Monday, February 26th from noon to 3:00 p.m. and experience a time warp back to the 1930's. Listen to music, learn to swing dance (lessons included), and feast on foods your great grandparents ate. Then, discuss "The Grapes of Wrath" with your peers.
The swing dance lesson will be taught by Maurine Taufer, Dance Director from the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts. Taufer has taught, directed, and choreographed for over 22 years. She is excited to bring you the most favorite dance style of the 1930’s.
Step Back in Time for The Big Read
The Parachute Branch Library offers a fun-filled afternoon of history on Saturday, February 23 for The Big Read.
Local singer/songwriter Nate Adams will start at 12:30 p.m. with a 30-minute tribute to Woodie Guthrie. Like Woodie, Adams plays by himself – just his guitar, harmonica, and croonin’. Come listen to Guthrie’s traditional folk and blues songs and hear stories about the "Dust Bowl Troubadour” himself.

Bohlen is an esteemed author whose 2006 Great Depression novel, The Pull of the Earth, won the Colorado Book Award for Fiction. Attend Bohlen’s writing workshop to learn how to transform your family stories into fiction!
All ages and levels are invited to attend the writing workshop at the New Castle Branch Library on Wednesday, February 27 at 6 p.m., and at the Silt Branch Library on Thursday, February 28 at 6 p.m. These programs are free and open to the public.
