Dinner and a Movie: The Grapes of Wrath

 Join us at the New Castle Branch Library for a Big Read event on Monday, February 4th at 6:00 p.m. Take a night off and a trip back in time for a showing of “The Grapes of Wrath” and bring-what-you-can soup. New Castle will provide crock pots, both vegetarian and meat variety soup broth, and eating utensils. We encourage all who come to bring something cooked or prepared beforehand (a can of beans, cut vegetables, cooked chicken, etc.) to add to the soup, which will be served throughout the film showing.

Those Thrifty Thirties

 Need some practical ideas on how to stretch those dollars? Come to the Parachute Branch Library on Thursday, February 7 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. for this Big Read event! Learn about everything from coupon clipping to making several meals out of one shopping experience as locals Jeanette Osmon and Barbara Barker share some clever ideas.

Conquering Mouse Fear: The Beginner Computer Class

 Learn to love the mouse, the internet and your new email.  A small group and lots of practice with a skilled instructor guarantees your success! Computers don’t seem to be going away so isn’t it time you learned to love your mouse?  Program takes place at the Parachute Branch Library on Tuesday mornings in February from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.  Sign up is required.  Class size is limited to 6.

Valentine Tea

 Sons and daughters, bring your mothers, fathers, grandmas and grandpas to a Valentine Tea at the New Castle Branch Library Community Room on Wednesday, February 11 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Special desserts and teas will be served.

RFHS Student Black and White Photography Exhibit Opening

 Larry Williams' photography students will exhibit black and white photography inspired by Great Depression era photo journalism, as well as by Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath” at Carbondale’s Third Street Center in February. The exhibit will consist of emulations, re-creations, and comparisons from the talented students of RFHS. Black and white graphic work from art students will be included in the show.

Soup Kitchen and Jamboree

Garfield County Libraries invites you to an old-fashioned gathering on Sunday, February 24 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Third Street Center to celebrate the spirit of sharing during the ʺhard timesʺ of the Great Depression, as depicted in the great American classic, “The Grapes of Wrath.” For this Big Read event, we'll have soup and bread for all.

First Friday in Carbondale: Celebrating The Grapes of Wrath

 Garfield County Libraries is kicking off The Big Read 2013 with John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath" at First Friday in Carbondale at 5:30 p.m. on February 1st.

Early Closure: New Year's Eve

 All Garfield County Libraries will close at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, and remain closed on Wednesday, January 1, in observance of the New Year's holiday. Regular hours resume at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at all branches.

Closure: Christmas Holiday

 All Garfield County Libraries will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 24-25, in observance of Christmas. Regular hours resume at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 26, at all branches.

Closure: Thanksgiving Holiday

 All Garfield County Libraries will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 28th and 29th, in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday. Regular hours resume at 10:00 a.m. on Saturdayday, November 30, at all branches.
