All Garfield County Libraries will be closed on Monday, May 27th, in observance of Memorial Day. Regular hours resume at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28th, at all branches.
Big Read Family Storytime
The Gordon Cooper Branch Library presents a Big Read Family Storytime on Monday, February 11th at 4:00 p.m. with songs and stories from the Dust Bowl era. Featuring songs from the Woody Guthrie “Grow Big" collection and books from the 1930's. Children will even get to make and play tambourines and washboards. This program will be led by Sue Schnitzer, the Gordon Cooper Branch Youth Services Librarian, and an award winning children’s musician.

The Silt Branch Library will be offering two showings of the movie "The Grapes of Wrath” starring Henry Fonda on Thursday, February 7th starting at 1:30 and at 6 p.m. Popcorn will be provided. Don’t’ miss this Big Read event.

Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday and Inauguration Day at the Gordon Cooper Library
We will have activities from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Gordon Cooper Branch Library for children of all ages. Arts and crafts, presidential matching games and trivia, a musical celebration honoring Martin Luther King, Jr., and live on the big screen in the Community Room, the Inauguration Ceremonies in Washington, DC.
Family Fun and Sing Along
Come and join us for a family fun day and sing along with Carbondale's Youth Services Librarian, Sue Schnitzer. Program takes place at the Rifle Branch Library on Saturday, February 2 at 1:00 p.m. and is part of The Big Read. We will be singing songs from the 1930's and making our own instruments to play as well.
Ladies Who Do Lunch Bunch
Join us at the Parachute Branch Library on Tuesday, February 19th at 12:00 p.m. as we discuss Great Depression era literature, including “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck, “The Worst Hard Times” by Timothy Egan, and “Out of the Dust” by Karen Hesse. Enjoy a pot-luck lunch featuring some Great Depression era recipes.
Tackle It Tuesday
Calling all quilters, stampers, needle crafters and scrap bookers! Want to have a day of fun and accomplishment? We’ll have tables, irons, ironing boards and cutting mats all set up for your convenience. Drop in and bring your project for a day of crafting, food and friends. Bring your own lunch, refreshments will be provided.
Tackle It Tuesday takes place at the Parachute Branch Library on February 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Step Back in Time for The Big Read
The Parachute Branch Library offers a fun-filled afternoon of history on Saturday, February 23 for The Big Read.
Local singer/songwriter Nate Adams will start at 12:30 p.m. with a 30-minute tribute to Woodie Guthrie. Like Woodie, Adams plays by himself – just his guitar, harmonica, and croonin’. Come listen to Guthrie’s traditional folk and blues songs and hear stories about the "Dust Bowl Troubadour” himself.
Learn to Swing Dance @ the Library
Garfield County Libraries is pleased to present free swing dance classes throughout February to celebrate The Big Read 2013. Maurine Taufer, Dance Director from the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts, has taught, directed, and choreographed for over 22 years. She is excited to bring you the most favorite dance style of the 1930’s. Whether you have two left feet, no dance experience, or just want to have fun and learn something new -- this class is for you! Come to the library to swing, sway and hop with us, and you’ll be kicking up your heals before you know it.
