 All Garfield County Libraries will be closed on Monday, September 2nd, in observance of Labor Day. Regular hours resume at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3rd, at all branches.

All Garfield County Libraries will be closed on Monday, May 27th, in observance of Memorial Day. Regular hours resume at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28th, at all branches.

 

Big Read Family Storytime

 The Gordon Cooper Branch Library presents a Big Read Family Storytime on Monday, February 11th at 4:00 p.m. with songs and stories from the Dust Bowl era. Featuring songs from the Woody Guthrie “Grow Big" collection and books from the 1930's. Children will even get to make and play tambourines and washboards. This program will be led by Sue Schnitzer, the Gordon Cooper Branch Youth Services Librarian, and an award winning children’s musician.

Daytime Book Club

 The Daytime Book Club is discussing “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck on Wednesday, February 13 at 10:30 a.m.

Grapes of Wrath Movie Night

 Don’t’ miss this viewing of the classic film “The Grapes of Wrath,” starring Henry Fonda. This Big Read program will be at the Rifle Branch Library on Friday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m.

Winter Craft Night

 The Glenwood Springs Branch Library is offering a special winter craft night for families with children of elementary or middle school age. We’ll make winter-themed creations and also have the opportunity to make Valentines for a special someone. The free program will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday February 7th at the library at 413 9th Street. Light snacks will be provided. 

Scrabble Club

 If you love words, games, and having fun, this club is for you! Our adult Scrabble Club meets from 5:30-8 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library. Beginners and experts alike are encouraged to join our club, which is free and open to the public. Make new friends and learn new Scrabble strategies. Scrabble boards, scoring materials, and dictionaries are provided. 

Troubled Trails

 When US Cavalry troops rode onto the Ute Indian Reservation in northwestern Colorado on September 29, 1879, they triggered a chain of events that cost the Utes their homeland. Author Robert Silbernagel casts new light on the story of the events in Meeker in his book "Troubled Trails: The Meeker Affair and the Expulsion of the Utes from Colorado". Silbernagel will be the featured speaker at the second offering of the Winter Lecture Series which will be held at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library on February 21st at 7:00 p.m.

"The Grapes of Wrath" Book Discussion

 The Glenwood Springs Branch Library is hosting a book discussion on “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck on Wednesday, February 27th at 7:00 p.m.

Popcorn and a Movie

 In conjunction with this year’s Big Read, the Glenwood Springs Branch Library will present segments from “The Dust Bowl,” a PBS documentary by Ken Burns. Join us on Friday, February 15th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. as we view portions of this poignant chronicle of a man-made ecological disaster. The program is free of charge and freshly popped popcorn will be served. The library is located at 413 9th Street.
