Page Turners Book Club
All are invited to join the Page Turners Book Club at the Parachute Branch Library for lively conversation and book discussion. The Page Turners meet on the second Tuesday of every month from 7-9 p.m.
Mammoths and Mastodons and Sloths, Oh My!
Jim Campbell, PhD, and Sandy Jackson, MA, both adjunct professors at Colorado Mountain College, will talk about their experiences at the Snowmass dig site during the summer of 2011. Join us at the Glenwood Springs Branch Library on November 17 at 7 p.m. to learn about the excavation process and what was discovered. Writing in Lines with Colorado's Poet Laureate
Want to learn to express yourself through poetry? Join Colorado's Poet Laureate David Mason at his "Writing in Lines" workshop on Saturday, October 29, at 3 p.m. at the Silt Branch Library. This workshop is a great opportunity for beginner poets to get feedback from one of Colorado's greatest. Mr. Mason will also share his own work.
Cross-stitch for Beginners
Back by popular demand, Melissa Colasinski will offer another cross-stitch program at the Silt Branch Library on Tuesday, February 28, from 6-8 p.m. Bring your materials or get a free starter pack and have Melissa show you the basics. If you already know how to cross-stitch or you want to bring a different type of activity, like knitting, go right ahead and enjoy the good company and refreshments. There is no charge to attend but please register in advance as space is limited; visit the Silt Branch or call 876-5500.
Tony Hillerman's Landscape
Join us at the Rifle Branch Library on Tuesday, November 1, at 7 p.m. Anne Hillerman and photographer Don Strel will talk about their award-winning book, Tony Hillerman's Landscape, which Anne crafted after spending three years traveling Indian Country. It is the compiliation of breathtaking images of the southwest, synopses of Tony Hillerman's novels, quotes from his books, Anne's memories of her father, and information about the land. The event is free and open to the public.
Super Saver Series: Crockpot Challenge and Tasting
Join us in the Rifle Branch Library's Community Room (upstairs) on October 22 at 7:00 p.m. for the next installation of our Super Saver Series.
Using a slow cooker is a great way to save money and time. Crockpot chefs are invited to prepare their favorite slow cooker recipe and bring it to the Crockpot Challenge. Bring a copy of your recipe and some friends to help with tasting, too. We'll sample all of the entries and vote for our favorites!
Scrabble Club
If you love words, games, and having fun, this club is for you! Our adult Scrabble Club meets from 6-8 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month at the Rifle Branch Library. Beginners and experts alike are encouraged to join and the club is free and open to the public. Make new friends and learn new Scrabble strategies. Bring your own board if you have one. Community Suicide Prevention Training
September is Suicide Prevention Month. Aspen Hope Center, a project of the Aspen Valley Medical Foundation, will present a community suicide prevention training at the Rifle Branch Library on Tuesday, September 27, at 5:30 p.m. The training is free and open to the public but registration is required. Crafting WIPs and Friends
Calling all quilters, needle crafters, scrapbookers, and stampers! Want to have a day of fun and accomplishment? Drop into the Rifle Branch Library's Community Room anytime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month for a day of crafting and fellowship. Come whip your WIPs (Works In Progress) into shape! There is no cost to attend; just bring your own lunch or snacks and drinks.
