On a small island not so far away and in a time not so different than the present, the water horse races known as the Scorpio Races are held every November. Islanders capture and train the water horses, which, while faster than any normal horse, feed on blood rather than hay and long for the sea. Puck Connelly enters the race to save her house and to keep her family together, yet she races on her island pony not a water horse. Sean enters...
In this fun picture book a very ugly bug wonders why she does not look like any of her other bug friends. They all have teeny tiny eyes, smooth green backs, and big fluttery wings, while she has big googly eyes, a wobbly head, and a hairy back. Discouraged by her appearance, the very ugly bug decides to create a special disguise that will make her appear more like her friends and enable her to remain safe from hungry predators. Her idea soon backfires when her new colorful appearance catches...
I discovered this band when they opened for one of my other favorites, Flogging Molly. If you get a chance to see Reverend Peyton in concert you will witness the amazing electricity generated between the band and the crowd. An interesting fact about this band is they are made up of only three people, one of which plays the washboard! "The Wages" is another album showcasing their crazy-good musical abilities and talents of down-home storytelling.
With the Nazi invasion of Warsaw, Poland the idyllic life of zookeepers Jan and Antonina Zabinski is turned into a nightmare. The Zabinskis become part of an underground effort that helps over 300 people escape the Jewish ghettoes of Warsaw and certain death. The contrast between the evil in the hearts of the Nazis and the good of those who risked everything to help their fellow man will astound you. This book is a testimony to the human spirit and the will to survive. It made me much more...
The Honey Dewdrops visited the Garfield County Libraries in the Summer of 2011. Their talents were immediately apparent, and the audience was captivated from moment one. I was glad to have gotten the chance to see them in person, and I think that same feeling was shared by the rest of the crowd. Check out their harmonies on this CD or their other CD, "If the Sun Will Shine", which are both owned by the libraries.
*UPDATE* The Honey Dewdrops will be back this summer! Check out our July...
Welcome to spring cleaning times 25! Gail Blanke has written a light, story-filled book coaching you through the process of clearing out all the unnecessary stuff/clutter/junk we all seem to have in our lives. She has sections on home, office, and personal mental clutter as well. The resource guide in the back of the book provides phone numbers and websites to contact for places to pass on, recycle, and donate the stuff that is still in good shape and needs a good home - just not YOUR...
This story tells of a young daughter growing up. Super sweet for those with little girls.
Erin Doland, the editor-in-chief of Unclutterer.com has arranged this uncluttering guidebook in days of the week. There are activities and tasks for each day including tackling areas of the house in an efficient and methodical way. She also includes seasonal tasks for upkeep and continued uncluttering for those of us who do not have a set schedule of work to be done in our homes.
Erin's writing style is really perfect for summer as she presents her encouraging and sometimes humorous plans to...
On a seemingly normal fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible and completely impenetrable force field. Immediately, the casualties begin to mount as an airplane crashes into the barrier followed by a number of cars and unsuspecting animals. While scientists and the military scramble to find a way to break through the dome, those trapped inside attempt to adjust to their new reality. And as many of us...
It’s never too late to discover a classic. I have spent much time amongst graphic novels but this is the first one I have been persuaded to read. Within the first few pages my preconceptions of an inferior form of literature were swept away. What I discovered was a storyline as dark as it was intriguing. For those unfamiliar, as I was, with the story it takes place in 1985 and focuses on costumed vigilantes only one of whom has actual superpowers. The Cold War is on a perilous trajectory...
